Michael George

Michael George is a second-generation florist who specializes in monochromatic, mono-genus arrangements that are structurally disciplined and elegantly modern. His father was a New York City florist, and Michael quite literally grew up in the family retail and event flower shop. His admiration for and understanding of flowers in their natural state developed at a young age. The concept of simple, graphic floral arrangements that would become his trademark began with his keen eye for the beauty of simplicity and natural perfection. To him the flowers looked best when packed neatly in hampers or boxes. In other words, a single species bound together in great abundance showcased the splendor of each and any flower.

In 1980 Michael opened a small grotto flower shop of his own. He was uninterested in subscribing to and continuing the conventional floral style of the day. He began to experiment with his idea of a plenitude of one species, neatly arranged in clear glass vases. Quite accidentally Michael discovered the technique of keeping the stems in a perfect, graphic form. Thus the stems themselves became as beautiful as the blooms they supported. The result was a sublime combination of a profusion of flowers packed neatly together and the simple beauty of explicitly tamed floral stems. Michael’s signature dome-shaped arrangements present flowers in unadorned and lush abundance, combined with the uncanny allure of graphically disciplined stems.

While graphic monofloral arrangements have certainly become his trademark, Michael George and his vastly capable team have the ingenuity and expertise to create any style or period piece composition. Regardless of budget Michael works with his clients on an individual basis, and is always willing to share the insight attained from a lifetime of working with flowers. He strives to meld his vision with the imaginings and floral whims of each client, within the limits of good taste, of course.

Over three decades later Michael George is New York City’s premier fashion industry florist, whose client list boasts foremost names such as Calvin Klein and Tom Ford. His arrangements can be seen in Manhattan hotels and storefronts, as well as in the pages of Vogue and on the set of Good Morning America. His visionary décor also sets the stage for chic events and whimsically romantic weddings. His compositions, from the smallest bedside arrangement to the grandest foyer masterpiece, will always create an exquisite impression.

Dazzling precision. Minimalist chic. Graphic elegance.
